Activities

While Golden Beach is an ideal place to get away from the hustle & bustle... there are many activities for young and old.  The area is a haven for wildlife with kangaroos, emus, wombats, possums, koalas and echidnas seen regularly when walking the nature trails.  

Also:

  • For the keen angler, there is good fishing from the beach, and annual fishing carnivals.

  • There is a community playground for young children to enjoy

  • Golden Beach has it's own indoor/outdoor bowls club and golf course

  • Visit a privately run wildlife shelter taking care of injured animals.  Phone:  0400 079 337

  • Walk along 90 miles of unspoilt continuous beach

  • Check out Trinculo shipwreck wedged into the sand

  • The Community Centre with "Art by the Sea Gallery", Internet, Water, RV stop & community garden selling native plants

  • Golden Beach Surf Lifesaving Club

  • A number of eateries including Wilco's Cafe, Golden Beach General Store & the VMMR Bistro at the Bowls Club

  • Watch the whales frolic offshore (in season)

  • A local Anglican Church

Trinculo shipwreck

Trinculo shipwreck

Trinculo Shipwreck is around 6½ km south-west of the Golden Beach town centre. In 1879, a gale caused this cargo ship to hit a sandbar just off the coast, forcing it ashore. To visit the wreck, drive to the signposted car park on Shoreline Drive and then follow the track through the vegetation to the beach find the wreck.

Great ocean fishing can be enjoyed in and around Golden Beach. Water access for boats to the vast Gippsland Lakes system is available at McLennan Strait which is a channel of water linking Lake Wellington to Lake Victoria. To get there, follow the road towards Loch Sport, taking the signposted road to McLennan Strait which passes through the tiny settlement of Seacombe.
